Rapid prototyping means making the first real, physical version of an idea quickly — usually in a day or two — so you can hold it, test it, show it to a customer, and change it. It is the opposite of the old-fashioned way of building products, where every revision cost weeks and thousands of dollars in tooling.

Why speed matters more than perfection on the first print

New products go through a lot of small mistakes before they are right — the wrong wall thickness, a button that is hard to reach, a bracket that does not clear a wire. Every one of those mistakes is cheap to fix on a prototype and expensive to fix in production. The faster you can find them, the faster you get to a design that actually works.

That is why our rapid prototyping service focuses on turnaround time, not fancy finishes. The first print does not need to look like the retail product — it needs to be in your hands quickly so you can see the mistakes, tell us about them, and let us print the next revision the same day. Most of our prototyping customers go through three to five revisions in the time it used to take to get a single quote from a traditional shop.

How the workflow runs

Morning: file review. You send a CAD file or a sketch and tell us the target date. We open the file, check that it is printable, ask any clarifying questions, and lock in a slot on the printers.

Day one: first print. FDM parts start immediately; resin parts are usually done overnight. If we need to design the part for you first, we can typically turn a simple CAD job in a day and print the same evening.

Day two: revision. You look at the physical part, mark it up (even a photo with sharpie marks works), and tell us what to change. We update the CAD and reprint. Repeat until the design is right.

Handoff. Once the prototype is dialed in, we can either keep producing small batches on the printers or hand off a print-ready and CNC-ready set of files to your production partner. Because we work in industry-standard formats there is no lock-in.

Standard turnaround is 24–72 hours depending on part size and how full the queue is. Not necessarily. We pick the material and print settings based on what the prototype has to do — if it needs to survive real use, we say so and print it that way.

Can I iterate cheaply?+

That is the point. Each revision is priced by material and machine time, not by tooling. Multi-revision projects usually get a discount after the first print.

Will you keep my design confidential?+

Yes. We sign NDAs before a project starts if requested, and never reuse or publish customer geometry.

Can you help me move from prototype to production?+
